Attached is a useful article explaining what healthcare is available for Irish visitor's to Australia under the Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement.  This information is not widely known within the Healthcare Industry.  This Information Sheet relates to NSW Health, it would be worth checking with your local State/Territory Heath Dept to see what cover is available.  Further information can be found on the Aust Government's Humanservices website here:  http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/medicare/reciprocal-health-care-agreements/health-care-for-visitors-to-australia

"Ireland and Australia have a reciprocal health care agreement (RHCA) that enables visitors from Ireland to Australia the choice to receive medically necessary treatment as inpatients or outpatients in Australian public hospitals. Medically necessary treatment means any ill-health or injury which occurs while the individual is in Australia and requires treatment before their return home. Cover is provided for the duration of the visitor’s approved stay in Australia. Subsidised pharmaceuticals under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) are included in the cover."
