2013 Season Information released

The 2013 Season Information has been released and available to view and download from 2013 Season Information – http://www.gaelicfootballqld.com.au/season-information/

The draw includes a canteen roster. While clubs endorsed the out-sourcing of the canteen at the SGM held in January, the QGFHA Commitee does not forsee that this will eventuate in 2013. A working group has been set up to thoroughly investigate options and financial implications, but in the meantime clubs are required to fulfil rostered duties.

At the 13 March 2013 meeting of QGFHA Committee, members approved the merger of Harps and Shamrocks women’s teams for 2013.

Here is a quick snapshot of the structure:

Men’s Div 1 & 2 teams:
5 teams (Easts, Harps, JM, Shamrocks & Souths)
1 round (where teams play each other once) = 5 weeks with each team having a BYE

Women’s teams:
4 teams (Easts, Harps/Shamrocks, JM, Souths)
1 round (where teams play each other once) = 3 weeks with NO BYE weekends.

Carpenter Cup = 1 round
QLD League = 2 rounds for men’s competitions; 4 rounds for women’s competition.

Field 1 at Gaelic Park is closed, effective immediately

Dear all,

Please be advised that Field 1 at Gaelic Park is closed, effective immediately. The Brisbane City Council have advised of their intention to commence immediate work on upgrading field 1. Therefore, from today and until told otherwise, no training or games will be permitted on Field 1.

The duration of closure will depend on how quickly the BCC can complete their scheduled work (which incl. setting up irrigation system on field 1). As a guide, field 1 will be unavailable for approximately of 2-4 weeks.

Clubs currently utilising Gaelic Park for training purposes will need to seek alternative arrangements. Weekend access to fields 2 and 3 might be option, but will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to the over-35s competition and any go games activities. All requests for field use must be put in writing and sent from the Club Secretary to me for Committee consideration.

Please distribute to team officials and players, as appropriate.

Kind regards,

Theresa

Irish Festival Family Day – Cancelled

Hi all,

On behalf of the QGFHA Management Committee I regret to advise that our annual Irish Festival Day, scheduled for this Sunday 10 March at Gaelic Park Willawong, has been cancelled.

Unfortunately, the grounds at Willawong are severely waterlogged, and the fact that more rain is predicted over the coming days, we have decided that in the interests of safety for our members, families and wider community, to cancel the event.

Please help us get the message out and forward this notice to members (past and present) and post on websites/facebook.

Many thanks,

Theresa

Death notice – RIP Kate Richards (26/07/1985 – 14/12/2012)

Dear all,

It is with a heavy heart that I advise of the recent passing of one of our Gaelic Football players.

Kate Richards, of John Mitchels, died unexpectantly in London on Friday, 14 December 2012.

Kate played with John Mitchels from 2008 to 2012 and was a much loved team-mate and dear friend to many.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this very sad and difficult time.

While we grieve her loss, let’s also celebrate her life and the joy she brought to so many.
I will send notice of the funeral arrangements, once those details come to hand.

Regards,

Theresa
